A lot of homeowners feel a little uncertain the first time they book professional lawn care. What exactly is going to happen? Do you need to be there? Will the crew know what to do without a walkthrough? These are fair questions, and the answer to most of them is simpler than you'd expect.
Here's a clear picture of what your first visit with North Lawn Care looks like, from the moment we pull up to the moment we leave.
You Don't Need to Be Home
This is the most common question we get before a first visit. You do not need to be present. As long as we have access to the lawn — gates unlatched, any dogs secured inside — we can complete the full service without you there.
If there are specific areas you'd like us to pay extra attention to, or sections to avoid, a quick text before we arrive is all it takes. We note it and handle it.
What We Do on Every Visit
Every single visit — including the first one — includes the same four-step process:
- Mowing — A clean, even cut across the full lawn at the appropriate height for the season. We don't rush it and we don't leave uneven passes.
- Edging — Crisp lines along every driveway edge, sidewalk, and curb. This is what separates a maintained lawn from a professional one, and it's included every time.
- Trimming — String trimmer work around trees, fence lines, foundations, mailbox posts, and anywhere the mower deck can't reach cleanly.
- Blower Finish — Every clipping blown off hard surfaces: driveway, walkway, porch, and deck. We leave the property clean, not just the grass.
There are no add-ons to choose from, no tiers to sort through. One visit, one price, all four steps.
How Long Does It Take?
For a typical residential lot in Lancaster or Depew, the full four-step service takes between 30 and 55 minutes, depending on the size and layout of the property. Corner lots with more edging, or yards with a lot of landscaping beds and obstacles, run a bit longer. Smaller, open lots are faster.
We don't set a timer and rush out. We also don't pad the time. The job is done when it's done correctly.
What the Finished Result Looks Like
When we're finished, the lawn should look noticeably different from when we arrived — not just shorter, but sharper. The edges along your driveway and sidewalk will be defined and clean. The turf will have a consistent cut height across the full yard. Clippings will be off every hard surface.
The edging in particular tends to surprise first-time clients. A lot of properties that have been self-maintained for years have soft, overgrown borders where grass has crept over the hardscape. After the first visit, those lines come back, and the whole property looks more intentional.
A Note on First Visits for Overgrown Lawns
If your lawn has gone several weeks without a cut, the first visit takes more time and care. We never scalp a lawn back in a single pass — removing more than a third of the blade height at once stresses the root system and leaves the turf looking worse before it looks better.
For lawns that are significantly overgrown, we may make two passes to bring the height down gradually, or schedule a follow-up visit within a few days. We'll let you know on arrival if that's the situation.
After Your First Visit
Once your first visit is complete, you're on our weekly rotation. Same crew, same Saturday, same standard of work every time. You don't need to rebook, call to confirm, or check in. We show up, we do the work, and the lawn stays consistent week to week through the season.
If anything ever doesn't meet your expectations after a visit, reach out the same day. We'll come back and make it right at no charge.
